United Yellow Cab Driver’s Association Strike Memo

This flyer, in support of the May 13, 1998, strike, was released by the United Yellow Cab Driver’s Association The Brooklyn-based United Yellow Cab Driver’s Association was one of several organizations of taxi drivers that supported the twenty-four-hour strike called by the New York Taxi Workers Alliance. The memo sought to inform UYCDA members, many of them South Asian immigrants, about the impact of changes proposed by the Taxi and Limousine Commission and provide details about strike activities. The changes affected medallions (the plaques affixed to yellow cabs that gives the legal right for taxis to operate in the city), as well as the required licenses issued by the state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and hack licenses issued by the TLC.
