Tef Poe Tweets Brown’s Stepfather’s Anguish

Tef Poe, a rapper born in St. Louis, was one of the main documenters of Brown’s murder, both on the day it occurred and after. He cofounded Hands Up United, a group that demanded the resignation of Police Chief Tom Jackson and Mayor James Knowles III. Poe posted this image depicting Brown’s stepfather, Louis Head, holding a sign on the day of the murder. In addition to showing his anguish, this image shows how Twitter could magnify and expand the impact of familiar protest tactics, like handmade signs.
