New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA) Strike Memo

This is an announcement released by the newly formed New York Taxi Workers Alliance prior to a strike on May 13, 1998, to protest increased fines and other proposed changes affecting cab drivers. Members were encouraged to make notes on the memos in their native languages and circulate them to their ethnic communities. The memos were also circulated in taxi garages, at airports, on the street, and in neighborhoods across New York City. The strike headquarters, referred to as “Jinnah Hall,” is named for the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
