Elisha and Meriam Chapin Gravestone

This gravestone marks the deaths of Elisha and Meriam Chapin, of Springfield, Massachusetts. The stone reads: “In Memory of Cap. Elisha Chapin who was killed by the savages at Williamstown in the County of Berkshire, 17th July 1756. Aged 49 Years. Also Mrs. Meriam his relict died 6th October 1800, Aged 83 Years.” The epitaph and the bottom of the stone are cut off in the original image.
