Civilian Conservation Corps working with Soil Conservation Service, 1939

The CCC altered landscapes to benefit Americans, for example, in Vernon County, Wisconsin CCC created soil conservation and erosion control projects. In the wake of the Dust Bowl, farmers called on the federal government to help stop erosion and protect crops. In this photo, CCC workers create a terrace to prevent water drainage from forming gullies.
