Burial Ground in Deerfield, Massachusetts, circa 2005

Since the seventeenth century, many grave markers have become illegible due to weather or other damage. The gravestone in foreground reads “Here lyes buried the body of Joseph Bernard, aged 45 years, dec [deceased] September 6th 1695.”
